Welcome

DC has a long history of being the gathering place for people around the world. Here, connections are made through an exchange of cultural traditions, art, and inspiring ideas. As an international city with a small-town feel, we look forward to welcoming WorldPride attendees with the hospitality that we’re known for.

Sports

Our recent history has demonstrated that sports present opportunities to advance awareness, understanding, acceptance, and equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community. When done right, sports can also provide a place of connection and belonging.

Washington, DC has great examples of professional sports franchises and college athletic departments that have taken public stances in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, Capital Pride is fortunate to have had the participation of the first national baseball team and first professional soccer team march in a Pride Parade. A commitment has already been made by the Washington Football team to march in the 2022 Pride Parade, which would make them the first National Football League (NFL) team to participate in a US Pride Parade.

Arts & Culture

As home to one of the first gay rights organizations in the world, Washington, DC has long been central to LGBTQ+ arts, culture, intelligentsia, and civil rights. In 2025 we will commemorate 50 years of an official Pride celebration in the USA’s capital, and the city offers an impressive collection of public art, museums, tours, and cultural events that celebrate this rich history. From award winning exhibits to family-friendly activities, DC will leave WorldPride attendees with a revitalized sense of Pride in who we are as a global community.

It allows us to be more visible and sends a clear message to our communities and lawmakers. At its core, Pride celebrations are a form of protest. Join us for an array of festivities and discover why Washington, DC is one of the most celebrated LGBTQ+ centers in the world.

Washington, DC has long been a creative springboard for global movements, policies, and gatherings. Through thought-provoking programming and events, WorldPride attendees to DC will be inspired and empowered to use the tools and connections they attain to bring positive change to their own communities. Importantly, the Capital Pride Alliance will launch an online community campaign in collaboration with InterPride so that attendees may remain engaged in collective dialogue for years to come.
