Tarell Alvin McCraney, the Oscar-winning screenwriter (Moonlight) and MacArthur “Genius Grant” playwright, brings his latest work to DC’s Arena Stage this May and June, just in time for World Pride in our nation’s capital.
A modern-day twist on Shakespeare’s “wedding plays,” WE ARE GATHERED tells the wildly funny and irresistibly steamy romance of W. Tre and Free, whose initial meeting in a shadowy park looking for a good time has led to a life of love, laughter, and a whole lot more heat than they bargained for. As they approach a milestone anniversary, they wonder if they’ve actually met Mr. Right—or if it’s all been a long one-night stand with a lovely Mr. Maybe. With a little support and a lot of confusion from family, friends, and a stranger in the dark, the question remains: will W. Tre and Free find their way together? Or will they let fear and a secret lead them apart?
