Our recent history has demonstrated that sports present opportunities to advance awareness, understanding, acceptance, and equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community. When done right, sports can also provide a place of connection and belonging.

Capital Cup Sports Festival

May 28 – June 4, 2025

Washington, DC has one of the most extensive local networks of LGBTQ+ sports teams and leagues in the world. Under the umbrella of Team DC, each of these leagues — their athletes, administrators, and volunteers numbering over 7,000 — are working together to create a multi-day Sports Festival for WorldPride DC 2025.

Team DC

Team DC is a charitable organization established to educate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community on the benefits of individual and team sports participation. Team DC works within the broader community to dispel discrimination against LGBTQ people participating in sports; endows and confers scholarships upon LGBTQ student-athletes; provides a network of sporting outlets for the LGBTQ community of the Washington Metropolitan area; and promotes participation in local, regional, national, and international amateur sports competitions. Team DC is a member of the General Assembly of the Federation of Gay Games.

Team DC was established in 1990 and formally incorporated in 2003. Team DC is a membership organization with a 12 person Board of Directors, 1 staff member and a Sports Council with representation from all affiliated sports teams and groups.
