Self-Guided LGBTQ+ History Tour at Congressional Cemetery
May 17 – June 18
History comes alive at Congressional Cemetery. The creak and clang of the wrought iron gate signals your arrival at a one-of-a-kind window into the past. Congressional Cemetery is proud to be the final resting place of hundreds of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer people. Their stories help texture the American experience, illustrating how LGBTQ+ people have contributed to the history of the United States while battling against discrimination and bigotry. Although LGBTQ+ individuals are buried throughout cemetery, many are located at “Gay Corner,” an affectionate nickname for the cemetery’s LGBTQ+ section. Throughout WorldPride, we invite you to discover gay history and legacy at Congressional Cemetery. Walking tours are available for free on our website and available inside our tour kiosk just inside our front gate.
